The Congressional District 1 stretches from the Oregon border in the north to Northern Auburn-Placer Co. in the south. From Siskiyou, Shasta, Tehama Co. to the Nevada border going West-East. Approximately 250 mi. long and 175 mi. wide. Census: 783,000.
White-82.16%. Hispanic-11.98%. Asian-2.4%. Black-1.37%.

Agricultural, Timber, Tourism, Small Manufacturing, Locally-owned businesses, Water, Health Care and Government.
Key Cities:
Redding and Chico are the governmental/shopping/health/education centers of the I-5 counties. Alturas, Susanville, Quincy, Downieville/Sierraville, Nevada City/Grass Valley are the important communities of the eastern sector of District 1.

Travel CD 1:
For a candidate to travel throughout CD 1, the I-5 counties is a 2.5 hr. drive from Yreka to Chico, regardless of the weather. The eastern portion of CD 1, Modoc-Nevada Co., is weather conditional. Flying in the Spring/Summer months is the optional method of travel to quickly get from one point to the other. The winter months is best driven by a 4-wheel vehicle in the eastern counties.
When viewing a map of the New CD1, you quickly realize there are basically 2 geographic sectors to the district; the I-5 counties and the eastern counties; primarily split by the Mt. Shasta/Mt.Lassen range from north to south.
